This is the most economical way to acheive the security that 6 scope base screws affords. The hole pattern is the same as used by SSK, Virgin Valley Custom Guns, and many others offering 6-screw scope bases.
These are stock Weaver 92A or 410 bases which have been modified to fit the above hole pattern. Stock Weaver screws have a "pinch" at the end that loses about one thread's worth of screw contact. The countersinks in these bases have been deepened and the screws ground to length to give optimum thread contact. Inadequate thread contact combined with high recoil puts your barrel at high risk of stripping out the threads in the holes. 6 screws with optimum contact are simply good insurance, not only to keep the scope base secure, but also to prevent damage to the barrel from stripped threads.
These bases are for UNTAPERED barrels ONLY. The forward two holes CANNOT be used on tapered 10" "Bull" and tapered carbine barrels.
Hints: When ordering custom barrels, it usually costs no more when 6 scope base holes are specified, yet if a barrel is retrofitted for the 6-screw base, drilling and tapping adds to the cost. 6-screw security then costs only $19.95.
If you want the high priced SSK TSOB look on a budget, use Bushnell rings. Your total cost will be less than half. Better yet, use the much stronger Durasight rings.
