As you can see, the shorter factory over travel screw is approximately the same length as the hole it goes in. Once it is adjusted out where it should be to be effective, there are only a couple threads left in contact.Except in trigger groups out of the ordinary, I nearly always install a longer overtravel screw in Contenders which gives nearly full thread contact and why they discontinued on G2 and Encore is beyond me.On occasion a longer screw is also needed for Encores and G2s, and these are the correct size for this application also. Because the ProHunter does not come with a factory over travel screw, the trigger guard must be drill and tapped and a great opportunity to add our longer over travel screw to correct. To adjust the overtravel on Contenders, set the striker (either manually with the trigger group out of the frame or by squeezing the trigger guard spur if the trigger group is installed in the frame), apply a light grade of thread sealant such as a light grade of Loc-Tite, turn the overtravel screw in until it contacts the back of the trigger, squeeze the trigger as you back out the overtravel screw until you see or hear the striker released, then back out the overtravel screw another 1/4 turn for some clearance needed between the sear surface in the top of the trigger and the striker when it is being set. DO I NEED TO TELL YOU NOT TO DO THIS WITH A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER AND THE HAMMER COCKED? I hope not, but just in case, make sure the barrel is empty if one is on the frame, and DO NOT cock the hammer. You do not need to in order to work on the trigger. Leave the hammer down.If you ever need to change the overtravel and the thread sealant won't let it turn, remove the trigger from the trigger housing and using about a 1/16" drill or smaller, attempt to drill out the screw. Doing so, it will either spin on through or the heat created by the drill will soften the sealant and then let it spin through. However slim the likelihood of needing to use this handy tip is, it can be invaluable to know when you do need it.For Encores & G2's I suggest using a .010 to .015" feeler gauge blade behind the trigger when setting the overtravel screw to make sure you do not set the overtravel screw too close.SETTING THE OVERTRAVEL SCREW TOO FAR FORWARD CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. IT CAN RESULT IN PREVENTING THE SEAR FROM FULLY RELEASING THE HAMMER WHILE THE HAMMER IS JUST BARELY HELD BACK & CAN EASILY FIRE WHETHER INTENDED OR NOT.Note the special cone tip on these screws.
STAINLESS STEEL, Choose from two lengths 3/16 for most contenders, 1/4 for all other models.
