As you may already know the original Thompson Center Contender® is light, thin, and the most versatile firearm ever made. Warren Center designed a masterpiece and Ken Thompson provided the manufacturing expertise to bring that masterpiece to market.
Over fifty years and 580,000 guns later, we have updated this work with modern manufacturing materials and processes making the gun stronger and more precise than the original. The SSK-50 is a continuation of the original design with complete cross compatibility with the Contender® barrels and components.
This receiver is compatible with G1/G2 Contender® barrels.
Manufactured by SSK Firearms in PA. David Fricke of SSK was first introduced to the single-shot world 45 years ago, and he is the driving force behind the revival of this platform that was discontinued roughly 17 years ago. He also has a passion for the wildcat calibers created by his friend and mentor, JD Jones. Bellm TCs has worked closely with David providing a few of the springs and sharing our years of technical knowledge to bring to light this all brand new version of the Contender BUT made from stronger material using state of the art CNC machining and technology.
Since this frame includes the latest revisions of "the original," all G1 barrels, current production G2, MGM, Bullberry, and SSK barrels will work on these frames. Need a barrel? We are now also a barrel dealer for SSK and have a good supply of barrels on hand so please pick up the phone and call us.
Need grips or stock sets to compliment your new frame? We also have a supply of them so again please call us to add to your frame order.
100% Crossover Compatibility: meaning that all original G1 and G2 barrels, stock sets, grip sets, and accessories will work perfectly on this new frame. Please note that flat bottom lug and pre 195K serial numbered barrels may not lockup correctly, if you have questions about what you have and compatibility please reach out to us before ordering.
Any chambering that worked well on "the original" will work as well or better on this frame.
The SSK-50 boasts a Stainless Steel frame with a black nitride-finished trigger guard, black oxide-finished hammer, and trigger to create a stunning package. The trigger is as good, if not better than "the original" famous trigger that we hear about all the time. The SSK-50 Operations and Safety Manual is located under Product Attachments. The SSK-50 is produced to the nominal geometry specifications of the last iteration of the Thompson Center Contender with extreme precision and low variation. A new benchmark for frame consistency has been established. 56 years of Contender barrel production from at least 8 manufacturers has led to an evolution in barrel geometry and variation that cannot be compensated for in a fixed design. Although customers report very high percentages of frame/barrel fit success with the SSK-50, there may be some barrels that are so far out of T/C's specifications that they may not function with the SSK-50.
The SSK 50 is a frame and thus requires transfer to a FFL dealer. After purchase IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to provide a copy by fax, email or text of the dealers FFL license that you have chosen to have it sent to. Failure to do so will delay us in processing your order. By ordering you agree to adhere to ALL local and state laws and have verified that a frame/receiver is a legal transferrable item in your location.
