A FULL ENDORSEMENT by the "Old Man" himself, Mike Bellm:
I do quite a bit of case forming, often reworking to cases shorter, below where the factory annealing stopped.
The Ugly annealer is as Kurt describes it, in a word, versatile, far more versatile than my old "home built" machine, and far safer to use.
Sometimes it takes some innovative type thinking to get the results I want, but the Ugly Annealer flat out lets you do it!
There is something to be said for annealing that may or may not be talked about much, something we may all be missing, just one more thing right before your eyes
that you don't make a connection to.
To the point, it is the importance of not just case life, but how quickly the case neck expands and creates the gas seal around it.
Fired cases showing a smoke smudge down the sides are an indication the neck is not initiating the seal, which also shows up as more
extreme S.D.'s on the chronograph.
I need to look at this more closely, but among other factors it appears to me there is good justification to do as many competitive shooters do,
anneal after every case resizing for best accuracy.
Likewise when reforming brass to another cartridge, I anneal down to where the new shoulder will be located, then after reforming, anneal again, especially for cartridges like my rimmed version of .30 Bellm, which is the 2.2" .444 Marlin case worked down to .30 cal at 1.4" case length.
A tip: In some situations, it is a good idea to let the cases drop into a pan of water if heat is traveling too far down the case just air cooling.
My apologies to "Carl" for not posting my endorsement sooner, but now with years of experience with the Ugly Annealer, I solidly endorse it.
And, my home built machine that served me well for about 20 years making about 10,000 .30 Bellm cases from .444 Marlin is due for the scrap yard!

Before you order, know this.
SOME easy assembly will be REQUIRED. You will need a propane source / bottle A phillips head screw drive for mounting the base. Will also need a 13mm wrench or small adjustable wrench ( to install torch holder rod to the case ) . EVERYTHING else needed to start annealing is included. Except you and your brass and some Gas.
If you are going to do 17 / 22 Hornet or the like, like 5.7X28 you will need to buy the Hornet insert I have them IN STOCK, only $15 when purchased with a machine. $20 when bought without. ALL the other 5 inserts needed are already included from the factory.
This Annealer is a beast and is a GREAT, HEAVY DUTY, QUALITY machine. Is made with us the hobbyists in mind. Designed buy a fellow shooter / re-loader.
Compare this to others in the same price range. Here are a few pictures of both companies gears, white one are from the UGLY, black off another brand. Ugly is white GLASS FIBER REINFORCED NYLON, other is black plastic. Now for pictures of Lower shaft support, the Ugly is real shaft through two bearings in a pillow block type bearing housing VERY STRONG and SOLID, verses a fully threaded bolt for a shaft going through a drilled or punched hole in sheet metal, the gen1, one I had, had sloppy movement. Pictures are off a unite that I had.
This is FROM THE MANUFACTURER (with a few slight word changes by me)
GAS BOTTLE & TORCH ARE NOT INCLUDED!
What IS inside of the package. An assortment box with spare spring, screws, c-clips.(alway nice to have the small easy to drop and lose parts) 1 set of quality Allen wrench’s. 1 set of 5 CNC-made caliber inserts shown in the photo, compatible with the common calibers. A universal gas bottle stand AND a gas nozzle clamp. A polycarbonate guide panel and 10mm axial holding rod. A stainless steel brass rolling ramp. 2 aluminum / nickel diamond coated wheels in 15mm and 20mm thickness. CNC-made catching wheel for inserts, without inserts a 50bmg slot. A user a Well written USER MANUAL ( I know its hard for some of us, but PLEASE READ this FIRST has some VERY important info and tricks ). 1 power adapter with USA power plug. The ugly annealer main body with the bottom plate. A cool spare parts / tool pouch
Machine case is made of #201 stainless steel. The clear front panel is impact-resistant polycarbonate ( it’s almost bulletproof). It costs 3 times as much as acrylic. I wanted it as tough as I could get because, I dropped my acrylic prototype and broke it. Yours shouldn't! The standard package includes 5 CNC milled caliber conversion inserts covering 223Rem / 10mm and its family, 7.62x39R /12mm and its family, 308Win /12.8mm and its family, 300Winmag 14mm and its family, 338LM 15.9mm and its family. To do 50BMG run without insert. It takes about 30 seconds to change the insert and adjust the torch over to a different caliber. The bottom rotation wheels that rotates the brass should last a lifetime, because the aluminum is heat resistant and industrial type grade diamond coating to turn the brass. I've given you two of them; a 15mm, 25mm I use single, OR they can be stacked. We want you to have everything you need to get started and keep going, without having to spend extra money to upgrade to different calibers. Not a lot of people need the Hornet insert so it is sold separate.
The machine comes with a CNC-made adjustable clamp compatible with a gas pencil torch with OD 12.70mm-13.0mm. A universal propane bottle holder also included. The Allen keys provided are outstanding quality. Just like everything else on this unit, It doesn't cost much extra to give you real quality you NEED and DESERVE.
